Brewskee-Ball: Skeeson 1 - Week 3

It's Thursday... which can only mean one thing... Brewskee-Ball and $1.00 Mystery Beers at Buckhead!

Here's your weekly Brewskee-Ball update:"I think that reality TV is so bad. It is a tool by the media to make people not think." -- Naveen Andrews

Greetings High Rollers!

I hope you're all having a great Wednesday thus far and resting up for Week 3 action tomorrow night! For those of you that witnessed the skeebacle that was Kelly Anne last week - I apologize. But I don't. But I do. But I don't. What a nightmare, huh? Even my little nieces and nephews know that you don't crawl up the skeeball lane to put your ball in the hole. Did anyone get video of that? If so, hit me up! I'm sure we could sell it to the paparaskee for a few bucks.

1) Week 2 Recap
2) Make-Up Night - Change of Date
3) Stats and Schedule
4) New SKEESPN cover
5) Video of the Week
6) Last Week's Trivia
7) This Week's Trivia

1) WEEK 2 RECAP
Week 2 saw most of the teams improve their scores significantly. Ali Baba and The 40 Skeeves found a superstar in Nat, as he led the squad with an impressive 28.5 average. Tim Skeebow continues to climb the charts and has currently claimed the second place position. Andre Agaskee has apparently found their 40 as they improved from a 618 in Week 1 to a 793 in Week 2! Pirates of the Carriskeein have taken an early lead on the rest of the teams....and yes, Brian may be a ringer, but he got lucky when he signed Miller Time and Desiree to his squad. He knew them from his grad school days so they came out one night to check out the league. After they finished in second place in one of the pre-skeeson tournaments, he decided to sign them to the squad. The signing bonus was a pitcher of Miller Lite, with a special clause written in that for every Full Circle rolled, Miller Time received an extra pitcher. Are the Pirates a lock to chug from the Brewskee Mug? Or will Tim Skeebow, Skeet Skeet MoFuggas, Skeed Marks or Cougars In Training be able to topple them? Or perhaps one of the teams that have yet to play will come in strong and take over the league? The answers to all of these questions can be found at Buckhead Saloon tomorrow night!

2) MAKE-UP NIGHT - CHANGE OF DATE
Two of the squads that need to make-up can't make it this Friday, so we're gonna postpone the make-up night. The new date will be Wednesday, January 7th beginning at 7pm.

Skeet Shooters, Team Krzyzweskee, Skeen Smith's All-Stars, Skeez Nuts, and That's What Skee Said - Mark your Calendars!

3) STATS AND SCHEDULE

4) NEW SKEESPN COVER
MTV's The Roll World - Click here to see this cover

This is a true story of six strangers picked to live together. By strangers I mean semi-attractive egomaniacs. And by live together I mean drink copious amounts of gratuitous alcohol in a rent-free environment, hook up with each other and go to their "job" about once a week.

But oh no, this true story doesn't end there! After the show ends, these six strangers continue to stretch out their 15 minutes of fame and D-list celebridom in bars across America! And luckily for all of us, Buckhead Saloon was one of those stops this past Thursday night.

I was expecting both Wes and Kelly Anne to be complete jacka$$es. I was only half right. Wes was a pretty cool guy. Kelly Anne - wow. Was she really that drunk? Please for the love of all that is holy, someone tell me they got video of her crawling up the lane and under the net to put her ball in the hundo. Anyone anyone? I got a few pics, but nothing great. If you do have pics or video of Kelly Anne the Skeetard, shoot them my way.

5) VIDEO OF THE WEEK
Ehren (Brewper Scoopers) gives us a solid performance as he rolls a 320!

Check out the video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9X8Pq-rznDI

6) LAST WEEK'S TRIVIA
Q: What is the name of the bar in San Francisco that hosts Brewskee-Ball?
A: Buckshot.

Congrats to Lu (ASkeeD's) who was the first to answer correctly.

7) THIS WEEK'S TRIVIA
First person to answer correctly will receive a free pitcher of Miller Lite.

Q: In the classic movie "A Christmas Story", what is Ralphie's little brother's name?

Alright kids, it's your last night of Brewskee-Ball before we take a few weeks off, so c'mon out and find your 40! Skee everyone tomorrow night!

Let The Good Times Roll,
Brian
See you all tonight!

Brewskee-Ball: Skeeson 1 - Week 2

Here's your weekly Brewskee-Ball: Season 1 update from our fearless leader, Brian!"We don't know who we are until we skee what we can do." -- Martha Grimes

Greetings High Rollers!

Hopefully Week 1 gave everyone a glimpse into how the league works - scoring, terminology, scheduling....and $1 Schlitz?!?!?

Now it's time to roll on into Week 2!

1) Buckhead - This Week
2) Stats and Schedule
3) New SKEESPN Covers
4) Make-up Night
5) Last Week's Trivia
6) This Week's Trivia
7) Mark Your Calendars Now!

Here we go....

1) BUCKHEAD - THIS WEEK

Week 1 always runs behind schedule due to everyone learning scoring....we shouldn't be that behind schedule anymore. Please get to the bar 10 - 15 minutes before your match to ensure a smooth running and punctual evening. If the first games start late it throws everyone else's schedule off, so please get there a little early. Thanks!

Due to a holiday party, matches will be at 8:30, 9:30, and 10:30 this week. If you're listed on the schedule, you're in for this week. If not, we'll see ya on the 19th for make-up night!

Wes and Kelly Anne from The Real World and the Challenges will be at Buckhead on Thursday night. I'm going to challenge Wes to a shirtless skeeball duel. Maybe Kelly Ann too....depends on my liquid courage. Anyways, they're trying to charge a cover to get in to see them (really?!?!? I get them for free on cable), but if you're a Brewskee-Baller you're in for free. There'll be a list at the front door so you don't have to deal with that. If you're bringing any friends/co-workers/lovers that aren't registered in the league, shoot me an email so I can add them to the list.

2) SCHEDULE AND STATS
Week 2 Schedule: http://www.brewskeeball.com/?pk=80
Week 1 Stats: http://www.brewskeeball.com/?pk=80

Stats are pretty self-explanatory. The top 8 teams (highlighted in orange) at the end of 8 weeks will advance to the Brewskee Mug Tournament. Team rankings are determined by cumulative score, not average. This is why it's imperative to make-up any matches you might miss.

The Top 16 High Rollers at the end of the 8 weeks will advance to the BROTY (Best Roller of the Year) Tournament. If you make all 8 weeks, you get to drop your lowest score, which obviously helps your average. If you miss 2 or more weeks, you are ineligible for the BROTY.

The BROTY is an amazing combination of march madness bracket-style elimination, beer, skeeball, and touchdown dances! You don't want to miss it!

3) NEW SKEESPN COVERS

Oh No, Wrong Hole! - click here to see this cover

That's What Skee Said showed up for Week 1 rocking team shirts and ready to go all night long.

They Like It In The Can - click here to see this cover

$1 Mystery Beers? Sign me up. Ehren and Denise were among the several Brewskee-Ballers who took a chance on the mystery surprise.

4) MAKE-UP NIGHT
If you've missed a night (or are going to miss a night), make sure you come out for the Make-Up night on Friday, December 19th. I'll buy the first few pitchers! After all the matches have been made up I'll see if Buckhead will let us get some free skee practice in.

Teams that will need to make-up:
That's What Skee Said
Skeet Shooters
Skeen Smith All-Stars (2)
The Krzyzweskee's (2)
Skeez Nuts

Friday, Dec 19th 7:00 - ?

5) LAST WEEK'S TRIVIA
Q: In the classic game Monopoly, which property sits between Pacific Avenue and Community Chest?
A: North Carolina Avenue

Congrats to Dave (That's What Skee Said) who answered correctly first.

6) THIS WEEK'S TRIVIA
First person to respond correctly will receive a free pitcher of Miller Lite. You can't win trivia two weeks in a row.
Q: What is the name of the bar in San Francisco that hosts Brewskee-Ball?

7) MARK YOUR CALENDARS
Friday, Dec 19th: Make-Up Night
Saturday, February 21: Championship Saturday!
The Hundo Challenge, the Final Four teams, the BROTY tournament, the trophies, the t-shirts and so much more!

What did the flower say to the mushroom?
Hey, you're a fun guy!

Skee everyone Thursday!

Let The Good Times Roll,
Brian
Looking forward to more $3 wine, $3 Buckhead martinis, and $1 Mystery Beer!

Brewskee-Ball: Skeeson 1 - Week 1

A great way to start off the official Skeeson 1 - Week 1 of Brewskee-Ball at Buckhead Saloon... a letter from our master of ceremonies, Brian!"All glory comes from daring to begin." -- Eugene F. Ware

Greetings High Rollers of Raleigh!

I don't know about you, but I am pumped! I've been working on getting this Raleigh league going for quite some time now and Week 1 is finally upon us! Every week, every match, every game, every ball counts! Find your 40 and all your new friends this Thursday night at Buckhead Saloon!

4) NEW SKEESPN COVER

5) SCORING AND BREWSKEE-BALL VERNACULAR
How does it all work? Glad you asked.

Check out this partially filled-out scorecard here: http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e201/bfarrell250/SkeesonVIIIScorecardexamplecopy.jpg

I'll be helping everyone out with scoring the first night, but here's a brief tutorial for those that would like it.

As you can see, each player rolls ten games total. Regardless of what you roll, you drop the zero at the end of the score. So Chris rolled a 300 his first game, which is a 30 on the scorecard. He then carries that score up to the upper left box in the next frame, waits for all the other players to roll, then rolls his second game. His second score was a 320 - or a 32 on the scorecard. He then adds these two together for his new total of 62. He carries the 62 up to the third frame and waits for his third game.

This also needs to be done all the way down and across for team totals. It's fairly simple, once you get the hang of it.

If you look at the right-hand bottom of the scorecard you'll also notice three other categories: Full Circles, Cherrys, and Hundos.

If a player rolls one of these mark a tally in the appropriate box.

Full Circle = all 9 balls in the 40 hole...360 points. Full Circle. Get it? Good.

To view a full circle, click here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VIBYiVQgYEg
The above Full Circle was self-recorded and rolled by NY Skee E.O. Eric....the kid is good)

Cherry = A combination of all 40s and 50s. Anywhere from a 370 - 440.

To view a cherry, click here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bBDKFjo5Gts
The above cherry was rolled by Chris "Pistol Petot" of the Bourbonators in Charlotte)

High Five = all 9 balls in the 50 hole. 450.

To view a high five, click here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5dRTEUAPZtc
(The above High Five was self-recorded and rolled by NY Skee E.O. Eric...the kid is really good. Cost me $20 on that one.)

Hundo = When you get a ball into the hundred hole. Please tally these on the scorecard as they (along with Full Circles and Cherrys) are an important part of the stats we keep.

To see The Perfect Game (all Hundos), click here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z_ulqX-ZW40
(The above perfect game was self-reco.....yeah, it was Eric again. Unskeelievable!)

6) TRIVIA
First person to reply with the correct answer wins a free pitcher of Miller Lite.

Question: In the classic game Monopoly, which property sits between Pacific Avenue and Community Chest?

7) LESSON LEARNED THE HARD WAY
I have a feeling that this may have scared the kid away from skeeball for life. And dodgeball. And baseball.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RtKvkc2lM4w

Alright folks, Week 1 is finally here! Get those arms loosened up and get pumped up! Who will Chug from the Brewskee Mug?

Skee everyone Thursday!

Greetings High Rollers,

Here are some quick weekly updates for Brewskee-Ball fans in Raleigh from the Brewskee-Ball Master of Ceremonies, Brian!1) SKEESON I STARTS THIS THURSDAY (12/4/08)
Only 8 days stand between you and the historical rolling of the first balls of Skeeson I in Raleigh! The anticipation is building, the Brewskee Mugs are being chilled, and the 40 and 100 hole will no longer be lonely!

The schedule for Week 1 will be released early this week, after Brian's finalized all the teams.

2) TEAMS
As of last week, there are 13 teams confirmed for Skeeson I. Brian has a few folks who are attempting to put last minute teams together, so if you know anyone that wants to get a team in, tell them to hit him up asap as we only have 3 spots remaining. The teams are listed below. Please be sure that Brian has all of your skeemates names and email addresses.

A majority of you still need to take care of your registration fee. Please do so on Week 1. Registration is $20/player and covers your official Brewskee-Ball tshirt, trophies, championship glassware, scorecards, the website, trading cards, etc etc etc.

4) THE PERFECT GAME
One of the more frequent questions Brian receives is "What's the highest score you can get?" Answer: 900. The Perfect Game. And then the follow-up question is always "Has anyone ever done that?"

For awhile the answer was always "Not that I know of." But then Eric Pavony, one of the NYC Skee E.O.'s, pulled it off. And not only did he pull it off, but he did it with a camcorder in the other hand. Yes, that's right, he self-recorded himself rolling the perfect game. Don't believe it?

Check it out here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z_ulqX-ZW40

Alright folks, a more detailed skeemail will be out early this week with all the info you need to get rolling, the schedule, and of course the second SKEESPN cover!

If there are question marks next to your team name, please email Brian with the answers.

Haircolor XPerts & Buckhead Saloon Gratefully Acknowledge Catwalk for the Cure Supporters

Many local businesses and individuals have played a major role in Saturday, August 23rd’s fundraiser for the JDRF.

(Raleigh, NC) – Julie Forsyth, Sales Manager for Buckhead Saloon, and Reneé Adkins, Artistic Director of Haircolor Xperts, announced today their grateful acknowledgement of the amount of local support for Catwalk for the Cure, a philanthropic fashion show to be held on Saturday, August 23rd, 2008 at Buckhead Saloon with 100% of proceeds benefitting the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

Many local businesses and individuals devoted their time, professional resources, and financial contributions to the event in a variety of ways including in-kind donations, sponsorships, event supplies, make-up, fashion, model talent, and prizes. Those local businesses and individuals include: Autobell, Bird on a Rock Inc., Bonefish Grill, Buffaloe Lanes, Café Carolina, Chik-fil-A, Cookies by Design, Domino’s, Fedex-Kinkos, 5 Star Restaurant & Bar, 42nd Street Oyster Bar, Q-Shack, Jiffy Lube, Jersey Mikes, Jimmy Johns, Moe’s, Spectrum Screen Printing, Lamont Farmer, Lowe’s Food, The Loop, Maggie Moo’s, Magic Corner, Reedy Creek Golf Course, Red Hot & Blue, Red Lobster, SB Couture, Spectrum Screen Printing, Stanley Steemer, Starbucks, and the Umstead Hotel & Spa.

“The amount of support for this event that our friends and colleagues have provided is truly astonishing”, says Adkins, whose son was diagnosed seven years ago with Juvenile Diabetes when he was only 10 years old. “It really speaks volumes about the businesses and more importantly – the business-owners in this area”, added Forsyth, “this event will produce so much more of a financial impact for the JDRF than it could have without the amount of support we’ve received.”

The original designs that will be on display at the show are the talent of Brooke Holland Designs from her Feather Collection and Meschantes Corsitry. The vintage designer duds set to be modeled during the show have been donated for use by Stuff, a local consignment shop with a knack for vintage couture fashions. The dramatic hair and make-up that will also be featured is provided by volunteer designers from Haircolor Xperts and the professional stage make-up retailer, Magic Corner, who donated over $700.00 worth of products for the show.

The doors will open at Buckhead Saloon at 7:00pm on Saturday for the event with the show starting at 9:30pm. Tickets are available in advance for $10.00 at Buckhead Saloon in Downtown Raleigh as well as at both Triangle locations of Haircolor Xperts located in Cary’s Arboretum Shopping Center and Raleigh’s Cameron Village. Day-of tickets will be $12.00 at Buckhead Saloon.

Attendees will have more opportunities to further support the fundraiser at the event by participating in on-location raffles and purchasing event apparel including t-shirts and tank tops at the fashion show. The evening’s big prize for those who purchase raffle tickets at the show is a one-night stay for two at Cary’s Umstead Hotel & Spa valued at over $380.00 – which was graciously provided by the Umstead Hotel & Spa for the event.
